News Media Inquiries

Hays CISD values the role of the news media in informing the public concerning the district, which belongs to the public. Effective communication ensures citizen involvement, understanding, crisis management, and highlighting the achievements of students and staff. The district seeks to encourage a positive relationship with the news media as part of a larger process of engagement with the public in conveying the district's mission, goals, and values. Therefore, it is essential for news media representatives to receive accurate, timely, and complete information. The welfare of students, the integrity of the educational day, and transparent governmental operations while maintaining compliance with applicable laws governing student and employee information shall be the guiding influences in all decisions related to news media cooperation. Maintaining a safe and undisturbed environment on each campus, especially in the classroom, is imperative for learning.

District News Releases

Occasionally, the district issues news releases and statements that are sent to members of the media who have requested to be included in the district's email distribution list. In most instances, those statements or releases are posted on the district's website in the news section of the homepage. Note that most district news is not distributed using news releases, but rather posted as stories on the district's social media.

Use of Published Social Media Images and Information

The predominant source of news happening in the district is distributed through the district's social media platforms. Members of the news media are granted permission to repost all images, videos, and information that is published on the district's social media since, once posted, the information is a matter of public record. Where possible, the district asks for a courtesy "Hays CISD" reference to the material.
