New Arrival Center Services
Mission Statement
The Hays CISD New Arrival Center is committed to the belief that all languages and experiences are a fundamental component of education that prepares students to succeed as global citizens in our multilingual society. We believe that multilingualism is an asset, not an obstacle, and builds on students' home languages and cultures. Our program chooses to focus on the strengths and capabilities of multilingual learners, rather than their challenges.
Information about Services
Our NAC services provide intensive, targeted, and accelerated English language instruction in speaking, listening, reading, and writing through a Content-Based Language Instruction (CBLI) model. CBLI is an integrated approach to language instruction in which language is developed within the context of content delivery that is culturally and linguistically responsive.
This program is for both middle school and high school-aged students who are non-English speakers and have been in the country for less than one year. During their second year in U.S. schools, students transition into content area classes with teachers who are trained in the CBLI model.
Teachers in the New Arrival Center are trained to work with new arrivals and provide them with extended ESL instruction through a Content-Based Language Instruction (CBLI) model to accelerate English language development and literacy skills in a supportive and meaningful environment while providing the opportunity to earn required credits for high school graduation.
